CFM International set a new record in 2005, receiving orders for 1,640 commercial, military, and spare CFM56 engines at a value of $9.8 billion at list price. The company's previous record, set in 1989, was for 1,343 engines.
Jointly owned by Snecma and GE, CFMI delivered 800 engines in 2005, from a total of more than 2,100 CFM56-5Bs that have been delivered to 94 operators. During the coming year, the fleet will grow at a rate of about 30 engines a month.
Since it was launched, the engine has gained broad-based industry and the CFM56-5B is the only engine that can power every model of the A320 family - from the small A318 up to the A321, with the same bill of materials, giving airlines a significant commonality. Overall, the CFM56-5B fleet has logged nearly 23 million flight hours and more than 13 million flight cycles.
