Taiwan’s China Airlines (CAL) has appointed a new chairman and chief executive in a top-level shake-up that was expected. The government-controlled carrier says chief executive Philip Wei Hsing-hsiung has been appointed chairman, replacing Chiang Yao-chung. Replacing Wei is Ringo Chao.

Chao, 49, has extensive airline industry experience, having served as president of CAL-owned Mandarin Airlines and as general manager of CAL rival EVA Air’s Europe branch as well as other overseas stations. He has also served as vice-president of Taiwan Television Enterprise.
