Singapore's Changi Airport handled a record number of passengers for 2017 at 62.2 million.
Changi Airport Group says the figure represents a 6% year-on-year increase from 2016. Changi also handled 3.5% more landings and take-offs at 373,200.
CAG notes that passenger traffic across "all regions" saw positive growth, led by Southeast and Northeast Asia that contributed to a combined 70% of total passenger traffic.
Among Changi's top 10 country markets, China and India led with a double-digit growth of 12% and 16%, respectively.
CAG's managing director for air hub development Lim Ching Kiat says that of the total number of passengers, "around one-third are transit" and describes 2017 "as a very good year [for the company]".
Going forward, CAG expects passenger traffic at Changi to grow "at about 3-to-4% every year over the next 20 years".
Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur replaced Jakarta as the airport's top city link for 2017 in terms of passenger numbers.Bangkok, Hong Kong and Manila rounded off the top five city links. Guangzhou was Changi's fastest growing city link with an increase of 15% passenger traffic over the 12 months.
During the year, Changi added Hebei Airlines, Norwegian and US-Bangla Airlines. Ten new passenger city links were also established, including three to China (Harbin, Shijiazhuang and Yantai), Greece (Athens), India (Madurai), Japan (Hiroshima and Okinawa), Malaysia (Bintulu), Sweden (Stockholm) and United States (Honolulu).
In terms of airfreight throughput, the figure grew by 7.9% to reach 2.13 million tonnes for the year.
Imports grew by 8%, while exports rose 14% and transshipments expanded 4%. The top five country markets for airfreight were China, Australia, Hong Kong, the US and India.
