Changi Airport Group(CAG) has partnered with the Singapore Economic Development Board to launch a S$50 million ($34.8 million) programme to drive technological innovation at the airport over the next five years.
The programme will serve as a platform for the airport operator, as well as government agencies, ground-handlers, concessionaires, security providers and cleaning companies to test and demonstrate new solutions at Changi.
CAG says it believes technology areas such as automation and robotics, data analytics, non-intrusive security technologies and smart infrastructure management are ready for innovation and adoption at the airport.
CAG has already started trials in the deployment of autonomous cleaning robots, and is also exploring the use of automated guided vehicles to ferry passengers between terminals.
The airport handles about 55 million passengers annually.
