Honeywell has gained US Federal Aviation Administration certification for the avionics it is developing for the Lockheed Martin C-130J Hercules.

The FAA has granted Honeywell a technical standard order (TSO), which certifies that the equipment complies with applicable FAA standards.

It is the first time that Honeywell has attempted to obtain TSO authorisation on equipment originally designed and qualified to military standards.

The C-130J is being developed as a private venture by Lockheed Martin, which will civil certificate the aircraft to prove airworthiness in lieu of gaining more traditional - and costly - military certification.

Initial customers are the Royal Air Force, the Royal Australian Air Force and the United States Air Force.
