Oregon-based enhanced vision system (EVS) developer Max-Viz has delivered the first EVS-1000 system for installation in a customer aircraft. The system will be fitted to a Bombardier Challenger 601-3A by Total Aircraft Services of Van Nuys, California.

The EVS-1000, an infrared- based system which is initially intended to improve the pilot's situational awareness during taxiing and approach and landing, is a single-band, long-wave device and will be fitted to the tailfin cap. It is designed to provide a 40° horizontal by 30° vertical image. "Operationally, EVS is designed for use at the pilot's option, throughout the full flight profile," says the company.

Images from the sensor will be projected on a dedicated video-capable cockpit display and the system is expected to be certificated by the US Federal Aviation Administration in the fourth quarter, adds Max-Viz.
