Iberia has transferred six Airbus A320 delivery positions to its low-cost affiliate Clickair, which it will receive this year under a sale-and-leaseback deal.

Barcelona-based Clickair, which is 20%-owned by Iberia, says it has issued a request for proposals to lessors to enable it to complete the sale-and-leaseback transaction. It aims to start operating the six A320s in April, and is considering taking over more of Iberia's A320 positions in the future.

The start-up launched operations in October and has now five ex-Iberia A320s. This year it plans to expand its fleet to 23 A320s, through the sale-and-leaseback deal and with aircraft acquired from International Lease Finance and Babcock & Brown. It will add 12 new routes to its network in the first quarter of this year.
