Canadian avionics manufacturer CMC Electronics announced here yesterday that the first four of a total of eight Air France Boeing 747-200s had returned to service following an upgrade to the GPS-based CMA-900 flight management system (FMS). CMA-900 will provide GPS-based navigation and enhanced operational capability.

The Air France installation is a multi-sensor system in which CMA-900 is integrated with the Carousel IV inertial navigation system. The CMA-900 features a colour liquid-crystal multi-function display and CMC Electronics 12-channel GPS sensor.

Air France is using CMA-900 to comply with RNAV requirements and to automate terminal-area flying procedures such as standard instrument departures (SID) and arrivals (STAR).
