Space Shuttle Columbia has been rolled out to the launch pad at the Kennedy Space Center, Florida, after a comprehensive two-year maintenance and modification programme. The work, conducted at Boeing's Rockwell plant, included the installation of the Multifunctional Electronic Display Subsystem (MEDS) glass cockpit. Columbia is the second shuttle, after Atlantis, to be fitted with MEDS. The orbiter, which flew the first mission in 1981, and last flew in July 1999, will be launched from Pad 39A on the STS 109 mission on 28 February to conduct the fourth Hubble Space Telescope servicing mission.
