Copa Airlines has added two additional Boeing 737s to its backlog, and the aircraft will be delivered in 2017.
The two 737s showed up on Boeing's latest orders and deliveries update through 2 September.
Copa chief executive Pedro Heilbron tells Flightglobal that the aircraft will be delivered in 2017. The airline plans to use the aircraft to replace jets leaving the fleet, although Heilbron indicates they could also be growth aircraft if needed.
Copa plans to close 2014 with a fleet of 98 aircraft, comprising 54 737-800s, 18 737-700s and 26 Embraer 190s, according to its latest fleet plan. The airline has 25 737-800s on order, Flightglobal's Ascend Fleets database shows. These 25 aircraft exclude the two 737s Copa just added to its backlog.
The airline holds an additional 14 737-800 options, after conversion of the two aircraft.
