Canadian investigators have disclosed that a West Wind Aviation ATR 42-300 struck trees just 1,400ft (430m) off the end of its departure runway during an ill-fated flight in Saskatchewan.
The aircraft had been taking off from Fond du Lac airport for Stony Rapids, with 22 passengers and three crew members, on 13 December.
Transportation Safety Board of Canada states, in a bulletin, that the aircraft departed runway 28 but collided with trees and terrain around 1,400ft off the western end.
While all on board survived the initial impact one of the passengers succumbed to injuries 12 days after the accident.
Another five passengers and a crew member received serious injuries in the accident, which destroyed the turboprop.
Investigators have yet to disclose any specific focus of the inquiry.
