Amateur footage has emerged on social media that appears to show the last moments of a TransAsia ATR72-600 before it plunged into the Keelung River after taking off from Taipei Songshan airport.
The footage, apparently from the dashboard camera of a vehicle, shows the ATR entering the frame with its left wing nearly perpendicular to the highway. The aircraft then plunges out of the frame.
A TransAsia spokeswoman contacted by Flightglobal would only confirm the crash but declined to provide more information.
Imagery suggests the weather condition over Taipei was overcast at the time of the crash.
Media reports indicate that 58 passengers were aboard the aircraft. The carrier has yet to issue a statement about the crash, and the fate of the passengers and crew is unclear.
Pictures, however, appear to show survivors being rescued in the water from the beside the aircraft, which is floating upside down in the Keelung River. Some reports suggest 10 people have bees rescued.
This is the second major crash involving TransAsia in the last 12 months. On 23 July 2014 another Transasia ATR72-600 crashed during stormy weather while attempting to land on the island of Magong, killing 48 passengers and crew.
