All seven crewmembers from a Boeing B-52H escaped unharmed after the US Air Force bomber crashed shortly after take-off from Andersen AFB, Guam on 19 May, the service's Pacific Air Forces (PACAF) says.

Pictures from the scene showed the B-52H wreckage near the Andersen flightline.

“The incident is under investigation and measures to mitigate possible environmental impacts are being taken,” PACAF says.

The accident occurred at around 08:30 local while the crew from 69th Expeditionary Bomb Squadron was on a routine deployment from Minot AFB, North Dakota.

Three bombers have crashed either on take-off or on approach to Andersen since 2008, including another B-52 in 2008 and a Northrop Grumman B-2 the same year.
