UK pilot school CTC Aviation is co-operating with Lufthansa’s US flight-training arm to train pilots in Arizona.
Southampton-based CTC has thus far conducted much of its flight training in the UK and New Zealand.
But last November the academy signed a partnership agreement with Airline Training Center Arizona, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Lufthansa Flight Training, to use its campus and staff from April 2014.
CTC will station 11 new training aircraft at Arizona's Goodyear airport, outside Phoenix, but utilise the school’s training facilities, instructors and student accommodations, says Lufthansa Flight Training. CTC’s aircraft will also be serviced through Airline Training Center Arizona.
CTC is using Diamond DA-20 Katana and Cessna 172 single-engined aircraft as well as diesel-powered DA-42 Twinstars at its existing sites, while the Arizona campus employs Beech F33 Bonanzas and Grob G120As.
The “joint [training] philosophy” between CTC and Lufthansa “offers an excellent framework for a long-term partnership”, says Airline Training Center Arizona chief executive Matthias Kippenberg.
