It's cute and clever and it's 'bow wowing' visitors to the North West Aerospace Alliance (NWAA) stand in hall 1, E29.Unleashed for the duration of the show is robo-dog, a metallic pooch with 18 motorised joints, producing 250 different types of movement. With minute video cameras as 'eyes', it makes endearing responses when patted, or will fly off in a sulk if slapped. The super cyber pet is called an AIBO which is Japanese for partner but it hasn't got a real kennel name, as the Alliance's Paul Hughes explains: "We want Farnborough visitors to help us pin down a name that really suits him... or her.

"There are junior robo dogs as prizes for the three most imaginative names. Hopefully, the gleaming pup will attract lots of people to our stand."

The Alliance, which is the industry body for aerospace in the north west of England, is highlighting the capabilities of its 200 member companies and 53 of those member firms will be on the stand.
