Austria’s first Embraer C-390 tactical transport has entered the structural assembly process at the Brazilian airframer’s Gaviao Peixoto production facility.

“We’re thrilled to start production… and we look forward to delivering the first aircraft to the Austrian air force soon,” says Embraer Defence & Security chief executive Bosco da Costa Junior.

Austria’s air force will receive four of the twinjet airlifters via a joint procurement with the Royal Netherlands Air Force, which will operate five.

The Austrian air force will field a four-strong C-390 fleet from later this decade

The partners signed a production contract for the aircraft with Embraer at the Farnborough air show last July, with deliveries due to commence in 2027.

Powered by International Aero Engines V2500 engines, Austria’s future C-390s will replace three aged Lockheed Martin C-130K Hercules in air force service.
