Delta Air Lines looks set to announce a second-quarter net loss of $140-160 million, largely the result of pilot strike action at regional subsidiary Comair.

Though a settlement in principle was reached on 14 June, it comes too late for operations to resume this quarter. Cost of the dispute to Delta is put at $180 million a quarter in lost income.

Delta's gloomy prognosis follows a first quarter in which a strike threat from staff, along with a downturn in the US economy, resulted in a $122 million shortfall.
