Delta Air Lines will begin new service between its Seattle Tacoma International airport hub and Orlando International airport in December.
The Atlanta-based SkyTeam Alliance carrier will offer one daily flight with a 160-seat Boeing 737-800 from 19 December, it announced on Twitter on 2 May.
The route is Delta’s latest in direct competition with Alaska Airlines out of Seattle. Orlando will be its first new domestic market from the airport east of the Mississippi River since it began building up its hub in 2013.
The airline plans to operate 85 domestic departures from Seattle Tacoma by the end of the year, it has said in various regulatory filings. It operated 51 at the end of 2014.
In April, Alaska announced new service from Los Angeles International airport to both Liberia and San Jose in Costa Rica from this October and November. It will compete with Delta on both routes.
The Seattle-based carrier is the only one flying between Seattle Tacoma and Orlando, Innovata schedules show.
