A new product from Device Technologies (Hall 3, Stand D12) is designed to eliminate the dangers of frayed wires and cables in aircraft.
Spring-Fast composite grommet edging uses tough stainless-steel core snaps to mechanically lock on to any two-axis contour. There's no need for the adhesive strips found on other forms of grommet, eliminating the possibility of glue failure.
The edging can be installed quickly by hand at a rate of one foot (0.3m) every few seconds. It features a polymer coating and cushion designed to provide a smooth, durable, abrasion-resistant surface with long-term resistance to shock, vibration, salt spray and immersion.
Device Technologies says that Spring-Fast offers airlines the possibility of significant savings on grommet installation costs. Manufacturers said to have expressed interest in the product include Boeing, Raytheon, Cessna and Fairchild Dornier.
