Diamond Aircraft Industries has more than doubled its manufacturing, research and maintenance areas at Wiener Neustadt-Ost Airport in Austria. The company, the developer of the DV20 Katana Xtreme range of light aircraft, now boasts a factory covering 5,200m2 (56,000ft2).

The newly expanded plant is now offering fixed-based-operator services with repair and servicing of aircraft up to 2,000kg gross weight.

Diamond, which also has a manufacturing centre in Canada producing the Katana as the DA-20 and is planning to establish the Diamond Air Center in Fort Pierce,Florida, is now assembling the prototype of the DV40, an enlarged version of the two-seat DV20 Katana.

The new aircraft is scheduled to be flown in the middle of this year, with serial production starting at the end of 1998.
