Cathay Pacific Airways has teamed with the Open University of Hong Kong to offer a professional diploma in in-flight service, the first such qualification in Hong Kong offered jointly by an airline and a university.

The course can be completed with around two months of full-time study and includes modules in civil aviation, aircraft safety and presentation skills. It will have two intakes, in August and October, of 24 students each. About half the 250h required to complete the course will be taught by Cathay Pacific trainers .

Cathay Pacific expects to offer more than 1,000 customer service jobs this year and a growing tourism industry means that local airlines expect to hire another 3,000 flight attendants over the next two years.
