Data Link Solutions (DLS), a BAE systems (Outside E14) /Rockwell Collins (Hall 4, F13) company, has won a contract to supply its Multi-Functional Information Distribution System (MIDS) Low Volume Terminals (LVT) to the Royal Danish Air Force (RDAF).
The deal forms part of RDAF's MLU upgrade programme to provide Link 16 capability on its fleet of Lockheed Martin F-16 aircraft. MIDS Link 16 provides the aircraft with better situational awareness and ensures RDAF interoperability with NATO and other coalition forces.
The system provides real-time, jam-resistant secure transfer of combat data, voice and navigation information. Pilots can exchange digital data over a common communication link that is continuously and automatically updated in real time. This enables them to see the battle space, including targets and threats, and reduces the risk of friendly fire.
DLS has also won a $48.3m order to provide MIDS LVTs to the US Navy Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR), based in San Diego, California.
Variety
These terminals will be installed on Boeing F/A-18, Lockheed Martin F-16, Northrop Grumman EA-6B, Sikorsky MH-60, and Northrop Grumman B-2 aircraft in the US and onboard a variety of aircraft in Switzerland, Poland, Belgium, and Taiwan.
The SPAWAR order for additional terminals is part of an Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity contract that was awarded in January 2000, and brings the total number of terminals ordered to more than 800.
