Dubai now has a full-time Cessna sales director and field service technician as the company prepares for continued sales growth in the Gulf region.

“The nine aircraft in our range, from the entry level Citation Mustang to the high performance Citation X, fall right in the sweet spot for the Middle East’s emerging business leaders,” says Trevor Esling, vice president of international sales.

A Citation Mustang is on static display, marking the VLJ's first official visit to the Middle East. Certification is secured in 40 countries for the Mustang, which has strong international appeal. Nearly three of every four orders for the six-seat jet are for customers outside the US.

Other Cessna aircraft on static display at the Dubai Air Show are a Citation X, XLS, CJ2+, CJ1+ and the Grand Caravan turboprop and single engine Skyhawk. A Sovereign is also displayed. The 160 sovereigns sold in 41 countries since September 2004 have just accumulated 100,000 flight hours.

Cessna hopes to repeat that feat with the latest Citation jets in development. The XLS+ is moving into production and is set for delivery in 2008 while the CJ4 prepares for structural testing and delivery in 2010. Cessna will start line flow for the first production XLS+ by the end of November. Two prototypes have accumulated nearly 300 flight hours and continue to work toward achieving FAA certification.

The CJ4 will be have the largest body and longest range of the single-pilot CJ line. The detail design stage is 95% complete and more than 75% of the major assembly tools are in place at the company’s major manufacturing facility in Wichita, Kansas.
