Leading Inmarsat satcoms antenna provider CMC Electronics is introducing a new version of its successful CMA-2102 system that is designed specifically to support  the recently introduced SwiftBroadband 432kbit/sec service.

“Inmarsat’s decision to offer SwiftBroadband across the entire 30MHz of available spectrum instead of the original 4MHz presents antenna and other equipment manufacturers with a design challenge,” says CMC commercial aviation VP Bruce Bailey. “The potential for intermodulation-related interference is greater and aircraft systems have to be hardened to rule out possible problems.”

CMC has developed an upgrade for the CMA-2102, which used in large numbers by Middle Eastern carriers such as Emirates, Etihad and Saudi Arabian Airlines. Already selected by Airbus for the A380, the modified system will be available for line and retrofits from next summer.
