Called Avioip, it exploits the 432kbit/sec bandwidth of SwiftBroadband to deliver a wide variety of communications options, including onboard cellphone, voice over Internet protocol (VoIP), IP television, email, Internet and VPN access, and videoconferencing.
Satcom1, which specialises in the design of complex Inmarsat solutions featuring capabilities such as data compression and security, is working on SwiftBroadband installations for a Boeing BBJ, a VVIP 747 and an Airbus A318. Passengers and crew on the three aircraft will have access to a wide range of communications: IP-based data at up to 432kbit/sec, ISDN circuit-switched data at 64kbit/sec, high-quality voice, fax, and simultaneous voice and IP data via a current maximum of two SwiftBroadband channels per aircraft.
