Dubai Aviation Enterprise University will have a major presence at the show, as it makes its rapid progress known to influential government officials and business executives from throughout the region.
Dr George Ebbs, university president and CEO, believes his establishment has a strong story to tell. Additionally, it will be announcing several new partnerships – collaboration with leading universities, knowledge transfer opportunities with a multinational technology provider and teaming arrangements with government agencies.
“It’s been quite remarkable. We’re almost a year in and we had our first 21 students start in mid-September on two accredited degree courses, on flight and aviation management and aviation business.” Among those 21 are five Emiratis and, significantly, says Ebbs, three women.
A year from now, he hopes there will be around 300 new students and eight new courses, with the totals ramping up to around 3,000 students by 2020. Additionally, a separate college will offer certificates in subjects such as meteorology and dispatch. This could accommodate a further 1,500-2,000 students.
The university will take students primarily from the Gulf, North Africa and Indian sub-continent: “We don’t have much, if anything, in the region offering a higher education in aviation and aerospace, although there are a few schools that offer engineering-oriented courses. “I think we will find pent-up demand for opportunities to study in this part of the world.”
