Few people have been to as many Dubai Air Shows as F&E chairman Virginia Kern – but one man who has is Rod Roper. And yesterday Kern and F&E Aerospace director Alison Weller presented a special plaque to Roper.

Roper has been at all ten Dubai air shows - and the two Arab Air shows before that - working with Cossor, the suppliers of the radar system at Dubai International airport. When Cossor was taken over by Raytheon, Roper continued to attend the show and then when he joined an exhibiton company he made sure Dubai was on his calendar. “It’s the best show in the world,” he says.

Today you will find Roper close to the air display action. He is part of the Flying Control team providing the “Height & Flight” monitoring services for the Flying Control Committee. He literally sits out in the middle of the runways all afternoon filming the aircraft performances and sending back the pictures to the FCC in the Control Tower, ensuring all the pilots meet the strict criteria for safe performance at the show. See you in 2009, Rod!
