Celebrating its tenth anniversary, the Abu Dhabi Police Air Wing, formed in 1997, is displaying one of its Agusta-Bell 412 helicopters here at the Dubai air show. Based at Al Bateen Air Base, the Air Wing has six AB 412s and three MBB BK117s, all of which wear a striking metallic gold colour scheme with a broad cheatline in the colours of the national flag.
The aircraft operate in the VIP transport, HEMS, and Search and Rescue roles, as well as for law enforcement. Two aircraft are on 24 hour standby as dedicated air ambulances with rescue winches, fast roping equipment, facilities for transporting premature babies, and with a comprehensive equipment fit including hydraulic ‘jaws of life’ cutter/spreaders, and another stands SAR alert duties.
The Air Wing’s aims include becoming the ‘principal pathway for appropriate access to all healthcare services throughout the UAE, and to focus on improving public welfare.’ The Air Wing is frequently involved in organising races and rallies, providing a high speed tracking capability and providing HEMS aircraft on standby at major events.
