AgustaWestland and Abu Dhabi Aviation have formed a helicopter maintenance joint venture, which could be expanded to component production and aircraft assembly in the long term.
Abu Dhabi Aviation has a fleet of 16 AW139s and has been an authorised service centre for the Anglo-Italian manufacturer since 2005. The company will support AW109s and AW139s in its hangar at Abu Dhabi International airport. Larger facilities will not be necessary for the venture's immediate phase. But if the cooperation is to expand to component production and airframe assembly, the company would need to move to a new site, which would be at the emirate's planned new international airport.
