Irish maintenance provider Dublin Aerospace has officially opened a new €4.5 million ($6.2 million) landing gear overhaul facility.

The 3,700m² (40,000ft²) workshop will double the capacity of the existing Boeing 737 landing gear support operations and add full overhaul capability for Airbus A320-family aircraft.

Other investment will be directed in the airframe and auxiliary power unit maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) divisions, the company said.

In total, the workforce would therefore "more than double" to "over 300" during the next two years. A total of 45 permanent jobs have been immediately created through the new facility, the company added.

Conor McCarthy, the company's founder and executive chairman, emphasised that competition with other MRO providers was "fierce" as Dublin is located "just three [flight] hours from the lowest cost economies".

Enterprise Ireland, the Irish government's investment authority, has supported the expansion programme.
