The first MD Helicopters twin-engine MD Explorer in Netherlands national police configuration started flight tests late last month at the company's Mesa, Arizona, facilities. The US Federal Aviation Administration is completing certification of the aircraft's equipment, including forward-looking infrared, moving map and weather radar. The aircraft will be delivered next month as part of an order of eight specially converted helicopters, which will be in service by the end of next year. The police force has an option for two more Explorers, which will be deployed for inland and offshore patrols.
