Eagle-eyed Flight Daily News photographer Mark Snell was capturing the arrival of the Ilyushin Il-114-100 for posterity when he noticed that there appeared to be an incompatibility between the wingspan and the width between the trees either side of the taxiway leading toward Asian Aerospace's static park.

Sure enough, some tree surgeons arrived and lopped off the offending fronds so that the Russian guest could be accommodated. Stand up the man who said that it would have been preferable (and possibly cheaper) to shorten the wings of the Ilyushin... Reportedly the palm trees in question were planted by a Singaporean dignitary - maybe even the Prime Minister - some years ago and the question of a fine has been mentioned. However, as the subsequent arrival of the Gulfstream V looked like necessitating even further surgery to the already truncated trees - not to mention demolition of some wrought-iron gates anything's possible…
