Improved safety in low-level flight or for approach and departure is now available to Enstrom 480B helicopter owners, through fitting Safe Flight Instrument's power-line detection system, which has just been certificated by the Federal Aviation Administration.
Safe Flight and Enstrom are working towards a supplemental type certificate that will allow for a retrofit to existing 480 operators. The product is a lightweight passive system that alerts the aircraft pilot and crew when approaching an energised power line, providing a visual and aural warning that intensifies as the aircraft approaches the danger.
