Scimitar-tipped Hawker 800s could start being delivered by the end of the year, said Aviation Partners.

The aerodynamic change to the tip-cap of API's existing blended winglet has started flying on the Hawker Beechcraft midsize business jet, which is the first to employ the new technology.

The patented, scimitar-shaped design feature is expected to reduce drag by another 0.5% as well as a "striking new aesthetic", Aviation Partners said.

"Anytime you can improve the productivity and performance of an existing asset, while making it more eco-friendly, is a wise investment," said Joe Clark, API founder and chief executive.

Meanwhile, the company is analysing whether the scimitar tips might be a feasible upgrade for blended winglets on existing Hawker 800s.

"Stay tuned for more exciting developments," said Gary Dunn, API vice-president of sales.
