Universal Weather and Aviation (stand 7030) is claiming an industry first with the release of a tankering calculation function that it expects to fuel demand for its business aviation online flight-planning system.

UVflightplanner.com is now capable of performing integrated fuel tankering calculations, Universal says.

"UVflightplanner.com users will now have the ability to perform, at no additional cost, automatic fuel tankering calculations with every flightplan they create in the system," says Randy Stephens, senior director, specialty products.

"With just a few clicks, operators will be able to accurately determine how much fuel can profitably be carried. I've seen scenarios where an operator might burn an extra 2-3% hauling the fuel home, but ended up saving more than 20% on the total purchasing cost of the fuel."

Universal claims that many of the standalone fuel-tankering calculators in use in the market rely on great circle distances, which are typically not accurate given the true path an operator flies.

"Some operators spend hours using complicated spreadsheets or calculators, which make it common for human error to become a factor," says Stephens.
