The European Commission (EC) last week expressed "doubts" about some of the €5 million ($5.95 million) given to Greek carrier Olympic Airways and private carrier Aegean Cronus as compensation after 11 September. The EC has approved compensation given by other nation states for the three-day disruption caused by a suspension of transatlantic traffic, but considers the Greek sum to be "incompatible with European legislation on state aid" as it includes routes not closed to air traffic.
