LanChile and Grupo Taca are competing to set up subsidiary airlines in Ecuador. Following their Peruvian models, the respective units would be called LanEcuador and Taca Ecuador. Both are asking the government for foreign routes. Because Ecuador is in Category 2 of the FAA's safety assessment programme, flights to the USA would require wet-leases.
