Russian state holding Rostec’s Technodinamika division is to supply electrically-driven systems for the Irkut MC-21’s reverse-thrust capability.
The company claims that its development for the Aviadvigatel PD-14 engine is the first of its kind in the country, and will replace the usual hydraulically-driven systems.
Technodinamika states that the equipment has been tested on an Ilyushin Il-76.
It adds that the electric system will reduce weight and increase reliability, performance and ease of maintenance.
General director Maxim Kuzyuk says the development is “one more step” towards the concept of a “more-electric aircraft”.
Irkut is carrying out final assembly of the initial MC-21 which is also designed to be powered by Pratt & Whitney PW1400G engines.
