Embraer announced a string of new deals yesterday at the Show to bring its cumulative total orders during Farnborough to $4.25 billion. Yesterday's orders for the ERJ 135, ERJ 145 and ERJ 170 jets was worth a total of $250 million, and included Air Caraibes, a new airline bringing together four Caribbean operators, signed a commercial proposal to buy two ERJ 145s for delivery in September 2000, two firm orders for the ERJ 170 for delivery in September 2003, plus two options.

China's Sichuan Airlines confirmed the letter of intent signed at the beginning of the year for five ERJ 145s, with first delivery scheduled for October, 2000.n Sweden's City Airlines and Austria's Rheintalflug exercised existing options on the ERJ 135 and the ERJ 145.Says Mauricio Botelho, Embraer president and chief executive: "We are simply delighted by the commitment being shown by our customers and we will reflect that commitment by meeting their needs now and in the future." Earlier, Embraer followed up its impressive debut in the business jet world with another block-buster worth $3 billion all announced at the Show.

The manufacturer landed a firm order for 75 aircraft from Continental Express. It's for a new extended range model of Embraer's best-selling ERJ 145 called the XR. The airline says it is taking 100 options on the ERJ 135 and ERJ 145 models.
