Embraer has no plans to open a production facility in India, despite strong growth in the market, particularly among its smaller Phenom series of private jets.
In a presentation on the sidelines of Aero India 2015 show, Embraer's vice-president for sales & marketing Middle East & Asia Pacific Claudio Camelier said that the Brazilian airframer has emerged as the market leader,delivering 35% of new private jets into the country over the last five years, against 26% for Bombardier and 16% for Hawker Beechcraft.
Camelier noted that even though India's private jet fleet has enjoyed a compound annual growth rate of 8% over the last eight years, it is still relatively nascent in overall terms, particularly compared with the major market for private jets, North America.
He adds that the company’s existing production capacity in Brazil, North America, and China is sufficient to meet production requirements.
Nonetheless, India has been a highly successful market for Embraer, with sales recorded in its three key aircraft areas: private jets, commercial aircraft, and defence. Overall, 27 Embraer aircraft operate in the country.
Private jet has been particularly lucrative, with15 private jets operating in the country, including six Phenom 100s, four Legacy 650s, and one Lineage 1000. Among airliners, Air Costa operates four E-Jets, and has firm orders for 25 E190-E2s and 25 E195-E2s.
India's military also operates five Legacy 600s in the VIP role, and three EMB145's equipped with a locally produced airborne early warning & control (AEW&C) system.
