Emirates has confirmed that there were no fatalities from the Boeing 777 accident at Dubai, having revised the count of the jet’s occupants.
The airline says the aircraft had 300 occupants, comprising 282 passengers and 18 crew members.
“All passengers and crew are accounted for and safe,” it adds.
Flight EK521 had departed Thiruvananthapuram at 10:19, the carrier states, and had been due to arrive in Dubai at 12:50.
There is no immediate indication about the cause of the accident but video images from the scene show the jet sliding to a halt on its underside, with its starboard engine detached.
The undercarriage is not immediately visible and its condition and deployment status are unconfirmed.
Video also indicates that the aircraft sustained a significant explosion on its starboard side while stationary.
NOTAMs from Dubai have declared the airport closed.
Emirates says the accident has created a 4h network delay to its services arising from the disruption to its main hub.
