Middle Eastern carrier Emirates has agreed the sale and leaseback of eight General Electric GE90 engines with US lessor GECAS.

The agreement with GECAS' engine-leasing arm, says Emirates, is the first of its kind for the carrier involving powerplants.

GE90 engines feature on the Dubai-based airline's Boeing 777-300ER fleet, some of which are leased from GECAS.

Emirates says the pact gives the carrier a "great deal of operational flexibility for a significant part of our engine fleet".
