Engine manufacturers hope to participate in the turboprop resurgence. New GE subsidiary Walter Engines in particular is confident it can secure sales for its recently launched derivative, the M601H-80. "With the fuel prices where they are this is a very opportune time to buy Walter engines," says GE Aviation general manager business and general aviation Brad Mottier.

GE acquired Czech Republic-based Walter this summer year. Mottier says GE has been able to breathe new life into Walter, which for several years lacked the funds needed to develop a new engine. Mottier says interest in the new M610H-80 is strong and GE also has upgraded the support provided for the 1,600 Walter engines in operation worldwide. "Clearly having a GE and a commitment makes a lot of difference for this engine," he says.
