Sonex Research is to modify a gasoline automotive engine to burn kerosene under a US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency programme to develop a 400hp (300kW) heavy-fuel engine for unmanned air vehicles that is 25-30% lighter than a diesel engine. The modification involves the chemical and turbulent enhancement of combustion in four-stroke direct-injected engines.
