Distinct national differences of opinion have emerged over the nature of future consolidation in Europe's aviation industry.

British firms are much more focused on mergers and acquisitions than their French and German counterparts, who want to see more consolidation in the form of consortia.

This is one of a series of findings to emerge from a major survey undertaken by Flight International and Computer Services, a worldwide provider of information technology.

Flight International business editor Kevin O'Toole said there were concerns that progress of the industry in Europe could be adversely affected until the various nationalities resolved their differences of approach.
