Belfast base for Aer Lingus
Aer Lingus has unveiled plans to open a new base in Belfast this winter with eight routes. But in a move which has prompted a vehement protest in the Shannon region, the carrier will drop its four daily flights from Shannon to London Heathrow to free the slots for the new thrice weekly Heathrow-Belfast service. Aer Lingus will also link Belfast with Amsterdam twice daily, Barcelona five times per week, Rome and Malaga four times per week, Budapest and Faro three times per week and Geneva twice per week.

BA to use 757s for EU-US ops
British Airways will not deploy more than four aircraft next year on its new operation between the USA and continental Europe and will not configure the aircraft with only business class seats. Many thought BA would launch an all-premium US-Europe operation with several aircraft but the airline revealed in August the operation would include up to four Boeing 757s in a mixed configuration.
