Taiwan's EVA Airways is forecasting a 14% drop in net profit this year as the global economic slowdown and high fuel costs are expected to take their toll. Deputy senior vice-president Nieh Kuo Wei says the carrier is forecasting a net profit of NT$2.15 billion ($66 million) for the year, compared with an unaudited net profit of NT$2.51 billion reported for the year ended 31 December 2000. This result was more than double that for 1999. It was boosted by healthy traffic and revenue growth.
