Evergreen International Aviation said at the show that it has obtained preliminary approval from California's Department of Forestry (CDF) to carry out water bombing missions in August with its Boeing 747 Supertanker. The trial will be the first live action the aircraft has seen in fighting fires.

The company has invested $35 million and over 20,000 engineering hours to convert one of its 12 747s to drop 20,000gal (75,000 litres) of water to fight fires. The aircraft is currently undergoing flight testing in preparation to obtain US FAA Supplemental Type Certification.
