Marcelo Bottini is the new president of Varig after another turnover of senior management at the troubled Brazilian airline.

He replaced Omar Carneiro da Cunha as president one month before the deadline for Varig’s restructuring plan. Carneiro, chairman David Zylbersztajn and two other directors resigned at the request of the Ruben Berta Foundation, Varig’s major shareholder.

Bottini, 45, has been with Varig since 1979, recently as commercial vice-president. He has held several overseas posts, including commercial director of Uruguay’s Pluna, which until last June was managed by Varig.
