Näf joins Gulf Air

New Gulf Air head Andre Dosé has recruited a member of his former team at Swiss, Björn Näf, as his chief operating officer.

Näf has left his job as the chief executive of Kenyan international cargo transport organisation Transafrik International to join Gulf Air.

Näf also served under Dosé at Swiss regional carrier Crossair where he helped it eventually emerge as Swiss International Air Lines. He left Swiss in 2004.

In his efforts to turn around loss-making Gulf Air, Dosé has also moved to trim back his management team. "The existing organisational structure has 13 direct reports to the president and chief executive," he says. "It is simply not possible to manage that efficiently." As a result, vice-president finance Ahmed Al Hammadi, vice-president services Tariq Sultan and vice-president business units Ali Murtada are all leaving the airline.
